![]() Orange Bowl 2006 - Penn State Marching Blue BandThe favorite part of the Blue Band experience to many fans is when the Drum Line comes out of the tunnel. This experience sets the tone for the game. The drums and cymbals approach the field silently. Suddenly there is a tap-tap-tap from a lone drummer and then, out of nowhere, the band appears. All the drums start playing and the band high steps it onto the field. At this point the band starts playing and fans erupt in a spontaneous cheer. Many people I have talked to enjoy this part of the game experience more than the game. Strike up the band! PRICES: Unframed: 16x20 $149, 20x24 199, 24x30 249, 30x40 $299 Framed 16X20 double matted $369, 20x24 $449, 24x30 $499, 30x40 $599 All framed prints are double matted with a blue outer and white inner and a black wood, black mahogany or cherry frame unless specified otherwise. I had talked to Dr. Bundy before the band left for Florida and he had mentioned
that both bands would have an abbreviated experience before the game and that
would be it. I told him that was disappointing, since both bands work hard all
season for their presentations. In fact, the famous Ohio State football coach,
Woody Hayes once told his football team that the only people that work harder
than the team for game day was the Ohio State Marching Band, fondly referred to
as The Best Damn Band in the Land. |

![]() This is considered the Blue Band’s”trademark drill” and ends the pregame show each Saturday. The band spells out the words LIONS the field length and marches from the South end zone towards the North. The band then reverses the spelling and marches from the North towards the South so the opposite stadium side can read the spelling. |

![]() The “P” of PSU isolated is a picture in itself. Each band member can be clearly seen. The “S” can have a double meaning. More and more alumni are using the block S as a Penn State athletic logo. S for STATE, GO STATE, PSU FOREVER! The “U” is also a picture unto itself and those that can find themselves in the image are quite excited. In all three of these individual images, the fans in the stands can be seen. See what the actual image will look like. When displayed as a print 16 x 20 or larger, everyone in the picture can be identified. |

![]() This image may be the most popular the band creates and is a favorite among with both band and football type people. When the band spells out PSU and the image is created as a panoramic it penetrates the souls of the viewers and spontaneously they start cheering louder. It is spectacular and emotional for the fans and the band members who created it. Note: All still pictures were created with a handheld 22 megapixel medium format Hassleblad camera with a telephoto lens attached to a 40 pound steady-cam. The photographer (me) was standing on an 8 foot ladder with my son (PSU ‘01 and four year Blue Band member) holding the ladder. I tried to create images that I would want if my child was in the band. |
