Penn State vs Ohio State 2005

Above titled SATURDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and the LIONS were playing Ohio State in the first "official" whiteout. Actually only the students wore white, but it was an exciting event for the fans. It had been raining (pouring) Friday and Saturday and the students has erected tents outside the stadium on the previous Monday and vowed to sleep there until game time. This was one sure way to get the best student seats available. Penn State was not favored and many people, including this writer, expected the LIONS to lose. I had strong hope. I had always wanted to take a dramatic picture of the captains, so I positioned myself to make the capture from the rear. In my opinion Alan Zemaitis, Paul Pozluszny and Michael Robinson were Penn State's best leaders ever. To add more drama, I decided to keep the captains and the scoreboard in color and have the rest of the image black and white. I perceived this as a play about to start and the curtain about to rise.

Above is the original version of the Saturday Night Lights unframed. I envisioned this as a broadway play and the curtain was yet to open. This game had it all, three iconic captains, a rainy evening, a great opponent and a sold out crowd. Not to mention that this was the first game that was called a whiteout and also the first game that the students "camped out" before the game. In this case, the students were camping out in pouring rain! That takes real dedication!

This print is still popular framed with two game tickets (use your own or we will use ours), a title plate and the OSU and PSU athletic logo pins. This was the first "Whiteout" when the students wore all white and no one else. The place was "rocking." Remember, we were ranked 65th at the beginning of the season and Coach Paterno had just come off his disastrous 2004 season. We were on a roll and did not disappoint, beating the Bucks! PSU 17 ~ OSU 10. This game was the momentum changer for the rest of the season, remember, it was only October 8. The only game we lost was to MI with 2 (controversial) seconds on the clock. A fabulous addition to any avid Penn State fan. This has been printed up to 78" long and can be longer if you want.
