Nittany Lion Inn

Nittany Lion Inn

The Nittany Lion Inn opened its doors in 1931. The above black and white scene was photographed shortly after completion. This image was photographed by my grandfather, J.L. Minick, class of '99 around 1949.

This is now the "back" of THE INN, but remains the most photographed view. When THE INN underwent massive renovations approximately 20 years ago, a facade was created, which is now the "front" of THE INN. However, to many older Penn Staters like me, THE INN will always be the "back view."

If you look closely at the "front" of THE INN, you will see that it is really a duplication of the back in many ways. THE INN offers 240 beautiful rooms fully "wired" for computer use, access to Penn State's two golf courses and close proximity to the entire campus and downtown State College. THE INN also boasts fine dining with a full scale "sit down" restaurant and a beautiful bar called "Whiskers."

If you are visiting, stroll to "the back" and look at the beautiful room with a real wood burning fireplace, a warm and cozy place to visit on cold winter days. THE INN boasts several meeting rooms and is a common gathering area for guests and is commonly used as a business retreat for conferences.
