Paterno Win 324 vs Ohio State

I don’t know why I took this picture, because, quite frankly, I did not think the Nittany Lions had a chance to win this game. However, this is an historic image now that history proved my instincts wrong. It is a great image of the team running in before the game. Coach Paterno can clearly be seen framed by the goal posts in the upper right corner. Zach Mills (number 7) can be seen to the left of the center post, not knowing what a pivotal role he would play in Coach Paterno’s historic win. See framed versions.

This win was probably one of Coach Paterno’s most improbable. The Nittany Lions had started off the season with a dismal loss to Toledo and Wisconsin (11 days after the 911 disaster at the World Trade Center).

Ohio State came into Beaver Stadium heavily favored and for a while it seemed like they were going to easily win. The Nittany Lions were down by two touchdowns at the start of the second half. Ohio State quickly scored again, but then the Lions came to life after an electrifying 78 yard touchdown by Zach Mills. Nittany Lions won the game 29-27. This win made Coach Paterno the undisputed Division IA coach with the most all time wins.
